Sanctions enforcement is accelerating in 2026

Three patterns we are seeing across UK, US, and EU enforcement cycles.

Cycle pre-positioning is up.

We track the pre-publication signals across OFAC, OFSI, and EU regimes. The pattern through Q1 of 2026 has been pre-positioning earlier than in previous years. Designation lists are reaching draft sooner, with less window between draft and publication. The practical effect is that bank corridors close faster on the back of designations.

Secondary exposure is wider.

Designations are being structured with more cascading liability for adjacent parties. A counterparty designation now flows through to anyone with current dealings, and the timing window for remediation has tightened. Our counterparty watch reads on the structural exposure, not the name list alone.

What this means for the file.

We brief clients quarterly on jurisdictional risk on their file. The brief is not advisory, it is structural. If you hold through a corridor that is showing pre-positioning, you know in time to talk to counsel.
